MORE ABOUT CROSSVEGAS 2014:
Clif Bar CrossVegas Preps for 8th year
In 2013, the international cyclocross season started "American-style" in Las Vegas at the incredibly popular Clif Bar CrossVegas. This UCI-sanctioned event featured some of the world's top pro racers including reigning world champion Sven Nys of Belgium in 2013. Nys and racers from 12 nations competed under the lights west of "The Strip" in front of a crowd of 10,000 spectators, most of them Interbike attendees relaxing after the first day of the show.
The 2013 edition raised a bar that will be tough to top with World Champion Sven Nys of Belgium putting on a clinic as he cruised to a solo victory in the Elite Men’s race. Katerina Nash of the Czech Republic scored her third CrossVegas win in a similar fashion crossing the finish almost half a minute ahead of her chasers in the Elite Women's race.
In addition to the top talent, CrossVegas 2013 included course features that provided lots of action like a new velodrome-inspired “Raleigh Ramp,” 2 different flyovers, 3 sets of stairs and the TRP Brake Zone barriers. Race director Brook Watts has hinted at a sand section for 2014 that would complete the “Circus-Maximus of Cyclocross."
Look for both Nys and Nash to return in 2014 to face competitors eager to prove their runaway wins were flukes.
The evening of racing kicks off with the "Wheelers & Dealers Race," the competitive-but-fun race for bragging rights among bicycle industry members pitting manufacturers, retailers, media and others against one another while cheered on by colleagues and associates. The racing is only half the show with zany costumes and outrageous behavior proving "what happens in Vegas…."
Thanks to Interbike you can get to CrossVegas using the shuttle busses that run all evening between The Mandalay Bay Convention Center and the race venue at Desert Breeze Soccer Complex. Just bring your show badge to gain access to the busses. Food and beverages of all kinds are available at CrossVegas.
CrossVegas recently announced new opportunities for sponsorships that can fit the needs of companies big or small. Sponsorships range from VIP hospitality packages that are considered the best entertainment value in Las Vegas to larger course feature sponsorships. Watts stressed that packages can be tailored to individual needs. “We recognize that every sponsor has different goals and budgetary constraints so we work to fit those.” A complete sponsorship overview can be seen at www.crossvegas.com.
Complete information about CrossVegas can be found at www.crossvegas.com. Registration for all categories, including the Wheelers & Dealers race, opens Tuesday August 5.
