Interbike’s Electric Bike Media Event Poised For Success
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – February 7, 2013 – Interbike, the largest bicycle industry trade show in North America, today announced that its inaugural Electric Bike Media Event has gained outstanding support from industry sponsors, confirmed significant consumer media to attend, and has exceeded expectations on pre-registered IBD’s signed up for the afternoon expo.
The inaugural event, taking place on Wednesday, February 13th at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, has gained support from leading manufacturers, technology providers and accessory companies from within the bike industry. Exhibiting sponsors include SRAM, Electra, Prodeco, Easy Motion USA, Pete’s Electric Bikes, Currie Technologies, Pedego, Solex and Serfas. Supporting sponsors include Bikes Belong, Bicycle Retailer & Industry News and the Light Electric Vehicle Association (LEVA).
“We (as an industry) need to do what we can to put more people on bikes, and Interbike is proud to help put a spotlight on the electric bike category,” said Pat Hus, Managing Director for Interbike. We’ve got a fantastic lineup of media that committed to attend, and more than 50 dealers – both local and out-of-state – preregistered for the dealer demo portion of the event. For a first year event, we’re pleased with where we are right now.”
Interbike has confirmed that more than 20 journalists from various outlets are attending, including those from:
• Two top 10 U.S. daily newspapers
• Several top 20 U.S. consumer magazines that focus on health, technology, cycling, fashion and/or luxury products
• Several industry trade publications.
The combined circulation of all media attending is more than 18 million readers.
Speaking at the event will be Bruno Maier, VP of Bikes Belong, and Bill Moore, Editor of EVWorld.com. Maier plans to discuss electric bikes and their benefits, and how we can get more people on bikes through advocacy and infrastructure. Moore will be the event keynote speaker, and will present the history and evolution of electric bikes, the different platforms being used today and opportunities for the category.
The event is open after 2pm for IBD’s to attend the expo, test the product and meet the sponsors. Interbike originally estimated about 20 local retailers would attend, but 50 dealers have signed up and that number is going up every day. Hus now believes they could have 75 dealers registered by event day.
